Bird Proofing with Stainless Steel Bird Spikes

Bird spikes are one of the easiest bird proofing products to install and when made from stainless steel, mounted into a polycarbonate base, they are one of the more durable methods too.

These spikes interfere with the birds ability to land (without causing them any injury) and depending upon which model, will deter birds from perching, roosting or even nesting on various types of structures.

There are two brands of stainless steel bird spikes available:

PAA Range - Stainless Steel Bird Spikes

Pest-Away Australia has our own brand of stainless steel bird spikes that combines the durability of stainless steel with the flexibility of polycarbonate in a cost-effective way.

PAA T24 Model

The PAA T24 model is for Pigeon Proofing.

This model has 'pressed in' spikes which means that the spike base will need to be flush mounted to a flat surface.

So the PAA T24 is not suitable for piping or conduit.

The PAA T24 will protect an area that is up to 230mm wide.

The PAA T24 is superior to the AVIPOINT P20 - Medium model in spike density, spike height, protection area, spike strength and price.

We recommend using a neutral base adhesive for fixing the spikes - Such as AVISIL or AVIFIX.

PAA T24 - Features:

Spike tip cut flat for safety

PAA S30 - Swallow Spikes:

The PAA S30 model has been specifically designed to deter smaller birds such as swallows or sparrows. The density of the spike pattern (with its unique 3-2-3 design) is one of the highest you will find on the market.

The spikes themselves are moulded into the UV-Stabilised polycarbonate base for added durability.

Whilst the PAA S30 is designed for small birds, it will still proof against small-medium sized birds such as: starlings, blackbirds, Indian mynas and the like.

[For larger birds like pigeons or seagulls, you should consider the PAA T24 model]

The spike pattern will protect an area that is up to 200mm wide.

The spikes can be fixed down with special neutral based flexible adhesives sold separately.

AVIPOINT - Stainless Steel Bird Spikes

The AVIPOINT range of stainless steel bird spikes have been designed for pigeons and come in three sizes to better suit a particular installation.

AVIPOINT products are manufactured in the United Kingdom, in a unique and highly automated process, to ensure the highest quality standards for your pest bird control solution. The products come with a 5 year manufacturer's guarantee under normal Australian weather conditions.

The AVIPOINT range can be used to protect buildings against birds in a wide range of situations, from daytime perching to night roosting sites and from the narrowest of pipes to the widest of building ledges.

Stainless steel spikes are also being used successfully to deter possums and for this purpose, the P20 or P32 spikes are recommended.

AVIPOINT - Stainless Steel Bird Spike Features:

Available in three sizes to suit all purposes
The bird spikes are heavy-duty 1.4mm diameter, 302-grade stainless steel, cut flat at the tip to prevent injury to both installers and birds
The bird spikes are moulded into the polycarbonate base for improved durability
The bases are UV resistant polycarbonate, with regular snaplines
The bases are flexible for using on curves
On the underside of the base is a unique 'glue guide' that allows quick and accurate application of adhesive
Supplied by the metre, made up of 3 x 333mm strips.

AVIPOINT P14 - Narrow Ideal for use on pipework or narrow ledges as the polycarbonate base is just 20mm wide. On pipework, we recommend adhesive and cable tying in place. AVIPOINT P20 - Medium This model has a higher density spike pattern and spans a greater width than the P14 model, making it better suited to protecting most building ledges. AVIPOINT P32 - Wide This model has the densest spike pattern and is the product of choice in the widest and most heavily infested areas. A specialist, high quality neutral curing silicone adhesive - Avisil - has been specially formulated for the installation of bird repellent spike systems.
